L. Carpenter, Esq., LL.M.
Mona L. Carpenter is a graduate of the University of
Baltimore School of Law and is admitted to practice before the Maryland Bar. Mrs. Carpenter received her Bachelor of Science
in Criminal Justice from Coppin State University and followed up at the University of Baltimore enrolling in the highly competitive
LL.M/JD combined degree program. Mrs. Carpenter concentrates her practice in the area of Taxation/Financial Services and Real
Estate Litigation. She also handles a variety of other civil matters, including personal injury, medical malpractice, business
organizations, commercial litigation, domestic/family law matters, maritime litigation, estates and trust, alternative dispute
resolutions and conflict negotiations, appellate advocacy, and general litigation. Mrs. Carpenter regularly litigates before
various state and federal courts from the initiation of the case through post-trial proceedings.
Mrs. Carpenter’s participation in the firm’s taxation practice
has included multiple victories. With respect to the tax practice, Mrs. Carpenter represents clients for personal and commercial
tax matters, including Installment Agreements, Offers In Compromise, Compliance Related Matters, Abatement of Penalties and
Interest, Liens and Levies, and appeals. Ms. Carpenter also handles residential and commercial real estate transactions
including workout and/or restructuring of delinquent financings, foreclosure of real property, and negotiations with regard
to other collection proceedings. Ms. Carpenter has recently joined an organization as legal consultant for general counseling,
negotiating, and drafting of agreements with artists, vendors and venues in music, film, television and sports. Finally, Mrs.
Carpenter’s pro bono practice various areas of law.
Mrs. Carpenter began her legal career at a boutique firm located in Rockville, Maryland where her area of
concentration was in taxation working on behalf of corporations and individuals. Mrs. Carpenter was then offered an associate
position with The Harleston Law Firm, LLC, a general practice law firm located in Baltimore County specializing in bankruptcy,
personal injury, business organizations, and multiple types of civil litigation for Plaintiffs and Defendants. Mrs. Carpenter
thereafter launched her solo practice, The Carpenter Legal Group, LLC, where she concentrates in the areas of Taxation and
Real Estate while retaining portions of her general litigation practice.
Mrs. Carpenter is admitted to practice before all Maryland state courts, United States District Court
of Maryland, the United States Tax Court, the Court of Special Appeals, and the Court of Appeals of Maryland.
Mrs. Carpenter is a member of the American Bar Association, the Young Lawyers
Division of the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association, the Maryland State Bar Association. Mrs. Carpenter is active in numerous
community projects and is a member of the University of Baltimore Alumni Association.
